Sergio Perez's father is in a 'stable' condition after he suffered a pre-heart attack immediately after the Mexican driver crashed at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Perez and Carlos Sainz were involved in a high-speed crash during the final laps of the race as they battled to secure third place in Baku.

Luckily both drivers were able to walk away from the incident unscathed.

However, the crash caused Antonio Perez Garibay to suffer a pre-infarction, a condition associated with chest pain that can happen before a heart attack.

According to Mexican publication Medio Tiempo, Perez Garibay said: 'Everything happened after the accident. The shock of the accident may have caused it. They are already checking my heart to see why I fainted.'

Perez Garibay's press office confirmed via an official statement that the medical scare had taken place.

'Perez Garibay was found unconscious in the bathroom of his Mexico City home, where paramedics attended to provide immediate medical attention,' the statement read.

'He was rushed to a hospital in the capital, where he is currently under medical observation and in stable condition.

'We thank you for your expressions of support and affection.'

Perez Garibay's racing organisation, Scuderia Perez, also confirmed the 65-year-old would remain under observation in hospital.

'Mr. Perez Garibay is stable but remains in intensive care under constant medical review, focusing mainly on his heart and other vital organs,' the statement read.

'The specialists in charge have indicated that his condition continues to be closely monitored.'

Amid the backdrop of his father's hospitalisation, Perez must now shift focus towards the Singapore GP on Sunday.

Perez's late crash in Baku meant his wait for his first podium since the Chinese GP remained

It is a vital race for Perez as he attempts to return to the podium for the first time since the Chinese GP in April.

He has also slipped to eighth in the driver's standings on 143 points.

Red Bull will also need Perez to bounce back after they fell behind McLaren in the constructor's standings.

Oscar Piastri's victory and Lando Norris' fourth-place finish in Baku helped McLaren leapfrog Red Bull and cement a 20-point gap with seven races remaining.
