Fury as Blake Lively repeatedly refers to transgender people as trannies in resurfaced interviews

Blake Lively is yet again under fire after internet sleuths unearthed a series of noughties interviews where she repeatedly used the transphobic slur 'tranny.'

The It Ends With Us Star has been hit by a barrage of criticism in recent weeks over claims she has insensitively promoted her latest film, rumors of on-set fighting with her coworkers and resurfaced interviews which show her 'belittling' reporters. 

And now she is in the hot seat again for an old interview with Elle Magazine where she reveals she wants to have daughters or 'trannies' because she wants to be able to hand down her shoe and handbag collection.

An extract from the interview, which has gone viral on X, prompted a series of replies highlighting other occasions when Lively used the slur in the 2000s.

The 36-year-old actress - who is known for her liberal political beliefs and is married to Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds - was labelled 'awful' by commenters online.

In the original chat with Elle Magazine, Lively is quoted as saying: 'I hope to have a few girls one day. If not girls, they'd better be trannies. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be appreciated.'

The star, who went onto have three daughters and one son, used the term again in a 2009 interview with Allure magazine.

'I feel like a tranny a lot of the time. I don't know, I'm ... large? They put me in six-inch heels and I tower over every man. I've got this long hair and lots of clothes and makeup on ... I just feel really big a lot of the time, and I'm surrounded by a lot of tiny people. I feel like a man sometimes.'

And in a third example, she repeats the slur in an on-screen interview with her then-Gossip Girl castmate Leighton Meester. 

An off-screen interviewer is heard asking the pair about rumors they 'didn't get on.' 

Lively replied: 'If you read the gossip magazines, everybody is dating everyone, everybody hates everyone, everybody has had like tons of plastic surgery and they're actually men and trannies. It's just like: you don't listen to the rumors.' 

One X user highlighted the original Elle magazine quote with the caption: 'Sometimes I'll be quietly going about my day and then I'll remember the time Blake Lively said this to a journalist.'

The post received over 18,000 likes. 

One user replied: 'I get what she was trying to say because someone better appreciate all that Vintage Versace she has. But she could have used different wording.'

Another wrote: 'You just blew up the whole smear campaign with this one.'

A third said: 'Not Lady Deadpool...' 

A separate Reddit threat posted one day ago accused Lively of dropping a 'transphobic slur' in a video clip which has since been deleted.

In the responses, a commenter wrote: 'That's awful!'

However, many internet users pointed out the word did not have the same derogatory connotations at the time and was used widely in popular culture.

One said: 'I’m actually not mad at this at all. The word was thrown around a lot back in the day. If it was said today it would be problematic, but nothing is wrong with wishing for a trans child.'

Another wrote: 'It was a different time. They used that word all the time on Sex and the City even in scenes starring actual trans people.' 

Lively has been embroiled in a negative media campaign fueled by rumors of an on-set feud with Justin Baldoni, 40, - her co-star and director for her latest film It Ends With US. 

She sparked more criticism from fans after she promoted her brands Betty Booze and Betty Buzz - along with her new hair-care brand Blake Brown, at the same time as the promotions for 'It Ends With Us.'

Some fans were horrified that the star chose to promote her own brands when promoting a movie dealing with such a serious topic as domestic abuse.

Since then, many have returned the hair care products to Target stores.

And she was criticized for a resurfaced interview when a then-pregnant Lively responded sarcastically to a reporter who congratulated her on her 'little bump.'

She fired back: 'Congrats on your little bump.'

Reporter Kjersti Flaa, 51, told DailyMail.com that the quip 'felt like a bullet' because she is unable to get pregnant.
