How Katie Holmes' lookalike daughter Suri has cultivated her eclectic Gen Z style thanks to her mom

3 weeks ago 7

Katie Holmes, 45, is a fashion icon in her own right - and now, her daughter Suri Noelle, 18, appears to be following her in footsteps while quite literally wearing her shoes.

Suri (previously Suri Cruise) doesn't appear to be just inspired by her mom's iconic '90s style, she's also raiding her closet regularly.

Not only do the two women look exactly alike, they've started wearing the same ensembles, with Suri seemingly getting loads of inspiration from Katie's red carpet looks as well as her time as tomboy Joey Potter on Dawson's Creek

In June, Katie, who shares Suri with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, 61, admitted to The Times that the 'basics' in her wardrobe 'definitely disappear' thanks to her stylish Gen Z daughter.

Katie said that while the incoming Carnegie Mellon University freshman steals some of her basics, the teen still 'has her own sense of style.'

Katie Holmes, 45, famously played the role of tomboy Joey Potter on the hit teen drama on The WB, which aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2003

The Dawson's Creek alum has also saved clothing to pass down to her daughter, and while we haven't seen Suri wearing them yet, she's certainly channeled her mom in many '90s-inspired outfits while walking around New York City.

The Teaching Mrs. Tingle actress and her daughter have both been spotted wearing the same retro blue and orange Pony sneakers. Suri also often opts for '90s-inspired footwear like Converse, moto boots and slouchy cowboy boots.

On social media, fans are obsessed with their shared love for fashion and can't help but offer comparisons.

Suri went viral when she was spotted attending prom in a two-piece ensemble that was very much Y2K-inspired, and looked like it was straight out of her mom's closet.

On a Reddit thread devoted to her dress, one fan wrote, 'Definitely has an early 2000s vintage vibe. I was wondering if it was a dress her mom wore and almost expected to scroll to a photo of Katie wearing the dress in 2006.'

Another agreed, 'It's so early 2000s and looks like something her mom would have worn on a red carpet at the time.'

But the Manhattan teen didn't raid her mom's clothing for the big dance, as Brooklyn-based vintage shop Malin Landaeus announced she found the set at their Williamsburg store.

Still, the dress looked eerily similar to one Katie wore to prom on the set of Dawson's Creek, the wildly popular WB show that aired from 1998 to 2003.

When asked by The Times if Katie hopes to pass down her wardrobe to Suri she said: 'Um, sure. I mean, I've saved some things here and there. But she has her own sense of style'

That's not the only Y2K inspiration behind Suri's fashionable street style. Suri is also a fan of tube tops, low-rise and baggy denim, and burgundy '90s lipstick.

Suri, 18,  has been closer than ever to her mother in the days before she leaves for college, and is famously estranged from her Scientologist father.

The Mission Impossible star and his ex-wife have not had a relationship ever since she cut ties with Scientology and they divorced in 2012.

During her graduation from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in June, she was listed as Suri Noelle instead of Suri Cruise, showing she's using her mother's middle name instead of her father's last name.

Her father did not attend the graduation and she paid tribute to her mother in a sweet sartorial way.

Suri wore a white lace dress that was reminiscent of the frock her mom wore when she attended the Emmys in 1998.
