An Australian professional cleaner has revealed the common mistakes people make when cleaning their homes.

Kacie, who runs The Big Clean Co in Melbourne, said the errors not only make a house 'look bad' but can also cause damage.

'Cleaning isn't complicated as long as you're following some simple rules,' she wrote and shared a TikTok video to educate others.

First, many use too much water when mopping floors which can ruin wooden flooring and leave unwanted spots on tiles.

'Ring that mop out well,' she said.

Professional cleaner Kacie Stephens, from Melbourne who heads The Big Clean Co, revealed common mistakes people make when cleaning their home

Similarly to using too much water when mopping, it's common to use too much product.

'This makes the floor feel sticky under your shoes - no one likes that,' Kacie said.

Windex is a popular product used to clean windows for a steak-free shine. However, Kacie said using it incorrectly can be 'inefficient and ineffective'.

'Instead soap it up and squeegee it off for a sharp finish,' she said.

Next, it's essential to ensure your vacuum is cleaned otherwise it won't work properly.

Kacie said a dirty vacuum can cause 'weak suction' and 'crappy air quality' as dust can reenter the home, which can impact those with allergies.

Lastly, not maintaining your vacuum cleaner head is another common mistake, which can scratch wooden floorboards.

'Clean it regularly so no hairs get caught in the wheels (it jams them up), and check for damaged parts,' Kacie added.

From using too much water when mopping to using Windex incorrectly, Kacie said the common mistakes can lead to damage

Kacie has become known for sharing helpful cleaning tips with thousands on TikTok and earlier this year she revealed the unlikely product she swears by to transform a grubby oven and make it sparkling clean.

She recommends using a pumice stick when tackling filthy ovens with baked-on food.

The abrasive product removes unwanted grease quickly and effectively without leaving any scratches - and it's chemical-free.

In another video, Kacie recorded herself using a pumice stick to demonstrate how well it works.

'This is a professional cleaner's tip for removing the build-up on the bottom of your oven,' she said.

'Just grab a pumice stick. This will literally scrape it off without scratching your oven.'
