I spend $17,000 a year on solo travelling and leave my boyfriend at home - I won't let a relationship stop me from seeing the world

A young woman who has spent $17,000 on travelling this year alone has told how she often leaves her boyfriend at home to enjoy solo trips.

Skylie Shore, 21, has loved travelling since she was a teenager and now prioritises it above everything else.

This year she has already been to five countries and done four solo trips, spending $7,000 - but she still has a lot more travel to look forward to.

In August Skylie will leave behind her boyfriend, Stephen Pogorilich, 24, to take a two-month trip around Europe, Japan and Canada, costing her a further $10,000.

While the couple still love to take trips together, travel-obsessed Skylie refuses to let her relationship hold her back from exploring the world.

Skylie, a corporate event planner, from Cranston, Rhode Island, US, said: 'I have spent $7,000 on places I've already been this year.

Skylie, who is pictured in Grindelwald, Switzerland, has loved travelling since she was a teenager and now prioritises it above all other activities

'But in my mind I really love to travel. I work to travel.

'I'm obsessed with travel. It consumes my life.

'I would never stop that just because I'm in a relationship.

She added that her boyfriend Stephen is 'super supportive' and never holds her back.

Skylie fell in love with travelling after going on a 'mission trip' to Costa Rica aged 14.

Such trips usually see groups take part in community service activities abroad and are often organised by churches.

Two years later she went to China on a school exchange trip and she has prioritised travel ever since - even if that means going alone.

Skylie visited Italy aged 18 and has been to Switzerland and Ireland by herself this year and loved all of it.

Skylie loves having new experiences and even tried paragliding when she visited Switzerland

She said: 'I really love trying new things and getting out of my comfort zone.

'I love to learn. You're learning without realising it.

'My favourite is a tie between Switzerland and Iceland.

'I love the greenery and being outside with nature.'

When Skylie met Stephen, a security guard, he didn't have a passport.

She added: 'He's a beginner. He likes to go a few times a year.'

This year the couple have visited the Bahamas, Saint Thomas and Puerto Rico together.

When Skylie travelled to Ireland and Switzerland, however, Stephen remained at home with her dog - a Corgi and Labrador mix called Dobbie.

Skylie and Stephen do sometimes travel together and visited Magens Bay Beach in the U.S. Virgin Islands

She said: 'The whole trip revolves around what I want to do. It's all good memories. The trip is what you make it.'

Skylie explained that her boyfriend looks forward to receiving pictures of her travels.

She said: 'He wants to make sure I'm safe. He checks in and FaceTimes.'

Skylie is embarking on a two-month solo trip at the end of August and will visit Portugal, Spain, France, Moscow, Turkey, the Netherlands, Poland, Japan, Indonesia and Canada.

She said: 'I have everything planned out.'

Skylie hopes to inspire others to take trips or time out for themselves.

She said: 'Do it when you're young - time is never promised.

'Start small if you need to. Get comfortable with being with yourself.'
