Marjorie Taylor Greene appears to not know how electric vehicles work with bizarre comment as she's called out by author Stephen King: 'You can't make this stuff up'

Controversial Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene confused critics, and possibly some fans, when she said that forcing Americans to drive electric vehicles will raise gas prices.

The congresswoman made the bizarre comment over the weekend while speaking at Donald Trump's rally in Las Vegas, where she delivered an applause line that got the crowd going, but has also attracted ample online criticism - including from Stephen King.

At the scorching hot Sunday rally, Greene, 50, said to the crowd of die-hard MAGA enthusiasts: 'If you think gas prices are high now, just wait until you are forced to drive an electric vehicle. America is sick of it.' 

King, an outspoken anti-Trump figure, in addition to being a prolific, best-selling novelist, mocked the Georgia Republican's stance on EVs, writing, 'You can't make this crap up,' in response to her statement.

As the name suggests, electric vehicles are powered by electricity, not gas. 

Though, a push toward significantly wider EV usage is something the Biden administration has intermittently failed to successfully market, let alone implement, even if they were successful, it's not clear why that would drive up fuel costs for other drivers.

Since he posted it, King's post has received nearly 1 million views. The post is not the first time King has taken aim at Greene.

Earlier this spring, King slammed the lawmaker for opposing an additional funding package for Ukraine worth some $60billion.

Greene described the bill's ultimate passage through the Republican-led House as 'the sellout of America.'

'I think every American in this country should be furious,' she said at the time.

'We had members of Congress in there waving the Ukrainian flag on the United States House of Representatives floor while we're doing nothing to secure our border.' 

King, in response, called her 'Moscow Marjorie,' a nickname originally bestowed upon her by fellow GOP caucus members. 

Before Trump went on Sunday at his massive Vegas rally, which occurred during a heatwave that sent temperatures soaring well into the 90s, if not 100s, Greene compared the former president to Jesus.

Other warm up acts were just as enthused. One speak said they were there to 'worship' on behalf of the goal of returning Trump to high office.

Trump took a lap through the American West at the end of last week, stopping in Arizona, California, and Nevada - two of which are battleground states he lost in 2020. Biden, who is trailing just a few points behind Trump in most swing states, won Nevada in 2020 by just 34,000 votes.

The 2022 midterms were more evidence that Nevada will be a tight competition. Voters elected a Republican governor, but locked out a Republican challenger from claiming Senator Catherine Cortez Masto's seat. 

Over the major fundraising weekend, Trump's team reported bringing in some $33million - adding to the already huge numbers that poured into the campaign coffers in the immediate aftermath of Trump's 34-count conviction by a Manhattan jury earlier this month.

Trump's Vegas visit comes amid a major launch from his campaign of their effort too court Latino voters away from the Democratic party.

On the same day as his rally, Team Trump announced the launch of 'Latino Americans for Trump,' a coalition of MAGA-minded Latinos of note from across the country.
