House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday revealed some of his private interactions with Donald Trump just moments after a gunman aimed a high-powered rifle at the former president while he was golfing on his Florida golf course.

Johnson, who was en route to Mar-a-Lago at the time agents opened fire and posted a photo with Trump after the stunning assassination attempt, said he and wife Kelly spoke with Trump about what he called 'Providence' and Trump's life being spared.

'He was in very good spirits, as you might suspect, that's who he is. He is so resilient and really grateful to see him,' Johnson said.

'There is no leader in the history of America that has been so attacked and remained so strong and so resilient,' Johnson told Fox News Monday morning. 'He is one of a kind. Is he not going to stop fighting for the American people. It was really encouraging for us to sit and visit with him right after that happened.'

Johnson was asked about Trump's prior comments that he believe his life was spared when he turned his head to look at a large screen during the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania where a shooter fired on him and the bullet grazed his ear.

He said he arrived at Trump's Florida club shortly after the former president returned from his golf course.

According to Johnson, an evangelical Christian, it isn't luck that allowed Trump to survive, after authorities say a Secret Service agent protecting Trump spotted the  suspect and fired on him. Law enforcement quickly apprehended Ryan Wesley Routh on I-95 after an alert man identified someone fleeing the scene after throwing a weapon.

'It's a remarkable thing. And Kelly and I spoke with him at great length about that. Because it is something that no one can deny. God has spared his life twice now it,' Johnson said.

'I told him that it reminded me of the bullet-proof George Washington our first president who evaded being shot army colonel, the famous incident in the French and Indian War where they all took shots at him and bullet holes went through his jacket and didn't take him down that event took place ironically less than 50 miles from where President Trump was shot on the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania,' he said.

Johnson, an evangelical Christian, thanked God for protecting Trump. He also credited an alert Secret Service agent

'These things are not accidents. It's not luck. I believe it's Providence and we talked about that. It's remarkable thing it. It would move any man's heart. I think it's moved the president’s. And it’s just something is he processing right now.'

Johnson demanded Trump get 'every asset available for his protection,' and described what he and Trump learned from the acting Secret Service director in a phone call.

'And what I understand happened is that those agents that were with him yesterday saw that barrel of that gun between the bushes on a golf course. I mean, you know, that's a difficult thing to spot. Thankfully they did unlike in butler they did not pause. They immediately pulled their weapons and fired.

He said the agents 'immediately pulled their weapons and fired,' which is why the suspected shooter threw his own gun in the bushes and ran.

Johnson demanded Trump have 'every asset available' and specifically mentioned a 'manpower allocation.'

Johnson said he was fine with Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' decision to have Florida conduct its own investigation, even as the FBI undertakes its inquiry. 'We all need to investigate it - local, state, feds.'

The speaker called himself 'very bullish about November' when asked about Republicans keeping the House and said he and Trump spoke about making the victory in all national races 'too big to rig' – a statement that suggests election fraud.
