A cookie cutter with a very mysterious shape has left thousands scratching their heads.
One Reddit user took to the What Is My Cookie Cutter subreddit last week to see if anyone could tell her what shape a baking tool she'd received was meant to be.
'My mum sent me this. Do you know what shape it is please?' the original poster (OP) named Lady_Absinthea queried.
With the post, she shared an image of the cookie cutter with a truly baffling silhouette: a bulbous, imperfectly round mass with a half-crescent sticking out of it.
A woman shared a photo of a cookie cutter to Reddit in hopes of figuring out what shape the kitchen tool was meant to represent
Some Redditors guessed that it could be a rose or a 'chubby bird' - even mocking up image to demonstrate their suggestions
Someone else saw in the half-crescent protrusion a half-peeled banana, held by a disembodied hand
Another envisioned the half-crescent overhang as part of a banana split
Thousands took to the comments to put forward, and also visually illustrate, their best guess - submitting ideas ranging from different types of plants and animals, to cartoon characters, to supernatural beings, and beyond.
The most upvoted guess was simply that of a rose, with the user envisioning the jutting-out bit as its stem. 'This is the only thing I can think of lol,' they admitted.
'A chubby bird?' another spit-balled- also demonstrating their hypothesis with an illustration superimposed on the original image.
Someone else saw in the half-crescent protrusion a half-peeled banana held by a disembodied hand, while a fourth person envisioned the same protrusion as the banana in a banana split.
A different user presented a drawing of a coiled-up cobra that indeed filled up the cookie cutter's shape rather convincingly.
Among the more brilliantly unhinged answers was a yellow duck holding a bloody butcher's knife, with the user adding the tongue-in-cheek note: 'Hear me out....'
To this, someone chimed in: 'This is the best answer. Go with murder duck.'
Keeping up with the theme of mortality, a Redditor envisioned 'a little grim reaper' - while several users believed the shape to be something in the realm of 'a cute ghost.'
'It's an old woman scolding a naughty child,' one user postulated.
Countless more users put forth a huge array of guesses in the comments - including a snail, an octopus, a grim reaper, a pumpkin in a pumpkin patch and a 'cute ghost'
Another user deduced that it was the character Moritz from the German children's book, Max and Moritz. In the original book's illustrations, the character sports a high half-ponytail along with flipped-out, shoulder-length hair.
Countless more users presented an array of additional guesses including 'a sideways snail,' 'a waving octopus,' a 'pumpkin in a pumpkin patch,' an elephant, and a 'moon and shooting star.'
The OP eventually followed up in the comments: 'Wow, I didn't expect so many suggestions! My mum thinks it's a ghost or a rose and she's loving all the suggestions!'
But a definitive answer has yet to emerge.
As one user put it: 'Glad I'm not the only one with no real answer… wtf is this.'
