New terrifying update in disappearance of couple who vanished from nudist ranch

More human remains have been uncovered at the home of a man accused of killing an elderly couple who vanished from a nudist resort.

The home belongs to 62-year-old Michael Royce Sparks, located next door to the California nudist ranch where Stephanie Menard, 73, and Daniel Menard, 79, had been living before going missing. Both are presumed dead.

A four-day search ensued after the pair failed to show up at church on August 25. In ended Thursday when cops received a tip pointing to Sparks. 

His home was damaged following a heated standoff as the suspect was armed and barricaded inside.

Amid the rubble, cops found a bunker that contained human remains were uncovered. Police now say more remains were uncovered as Sparks remains in custody suspicion of murder.

'A Sheriff's Department cadaver dog was deployed this morning at the site of the suspect's arrest,' the Redlands Police Department wrote in a statement at 11am Monday.

'The dog alerted on the area where the suspect was taken into custody, indicating the presence of at least one body.

'RPD currently has various resources on site to determine whether the structure is safe before teams enter to search for bodies.'

Two hours earlier, cops in the city located eight miles from where the pair were last seen, the Olive Dell Ranch nudist resort, stated their intent to 'complete the search for evidence at the site of the suspect's arrest'.

The statement mentioned how police had already recovered the remains of two people on Friday, which they said were 'believed to be Dan and Stephanie Menard

'Other evidence' was found as well, cops said, while not offering any more detail.

Identification of the remains and the cause of death were awaiting an autopsy that would be completed 'sometime this week,' they said.

'There has been no sign of the couple's dog, Cuddles, during the search,' cops added of the pair's still-missing Shih Tzu.

It remained unclear whether the new remains belonged to a different individual or individuals.

On Saturday, police in the city located in San Bernardino County about 50 miles from Los Angeles ceased operations after it 'showed signs of a potential collapse.'

Heavy equipment and machinery were then brought in to remove the debris, paving the way for the discovery on Sunday.

In Sparks' bunker, he armed himself with a rifle while refusing to let officers inside, forcing police to use a drone and then a battering ram to physically tear though the house.

Cops were then able to make an arrest, after Sparks attempted to take his own life but was unable when his gun misfired, investigators said.

A motive for the alleged killings has not been announced, but fellow residents told KTLA the trio had been engaged in a long-running feud.

The unnamed insiders added how Sparks never liked the couple, though others said their were surprised to hear he was a suspect in the case.

'I don't really know him a whole lot, but he's a very soft-spoken guy,' said Jim Hynd, a neighbor who lives in the nudist colony. 'He would probably be the last person that you would think would do something like this.' 

The elderly couple were also said to have had health issues, with Daniel suffering from both dementia and diabetes, and Stephanie needing a cane to walk.
