New York's top cop Edward Caban is allegedly on the brink of resigning amid an explosive federal corruption probe into members of Mayor Eric Adams' administration.
The announcement is expected in the coming days, multiple sources told Politico on Monday.
As of Monday afternoon, he has not yet stepped down - despite calls from some city officials to do so.
'We remain focused on ensuring New Yorkers are safe every single day, and that's our top priority,' City Hall spokesperson Fabien Levy said. 'We're not going to speculate on rumors at this point.'
On Monday's press conference, Eric Adams spoke of Caban saying: 'I chose him for his experience and what he brought after 30-something years of service.'

The news comes just days after the FBI seized Caban's phone as part of a probe into New York City corruption on Thursday
'Rumors are always out there,' he added. 'There was nothing that came from me that fed those rumors.'

Sources told Pix11 the raid on Caban stemmed from a separate probe to the investigation into Adams' campaign financing (the exterior of the home where NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban lives is shown)
Those raids unfolded in tandem at Wright's Hamilton Heights townhouse in upper Manhattan and Banks' Hollis, Queens property.
Banks' brother, former MTA official and current lobbyist Terence Banks, was also targeted.
Meanwhile another top Adams' aide, Timothy Pearson, had his phones subpoenaed, according to the New York Post.
Sources told Pix11 the raid on Caban stemmed from a separate probe than the investigation into Adams' campaign financing.

Several leaders called for Caban's resignation, including City Councilman Robert Holden.
Holden said 'I do think he has to do something because it does cast a bad, deep shadow over the police department,' as reported by CBS News.
'We have to have confidence he's staying within the law. He sets an example for the whole department.'
