A man in Ohio has been arrested over claims he lied to the police about being attacked for being Palestinian when his injuries resulted from a fight with his younger brother.

Hesham A. Ayyad, 20, allegedly told the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Cleveland that a driver ran him over with his car after shouting anti-Palestinian slurs.

The organization subsequently released on October 23 in which it demanded an investigation into the incident along with a photo of him lying in hospital with a neck brace.

But Ayyad was arrested by North Ridgeville police on Tuesday who said his injuries resulted from a fight with his brother, according to Cleveland.com.

He was reportedly charged with making false alarms, falsification, obstructing official business, domestic violence and assault.

He allegedly told the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Cleveland that a driver ran him over with his car after shouting anti-Palestinian slurs

Ayyad was walking home after a lunch near the border of Olmsted Falls and North Ridgeville at 4pm when a car stopped alongside him, the CAIR press release stated.

He allegedly told the Muslim civil rights and advocacy group that the driver shouted 'Kill all Palestinians' and 'Long live Israel' at him.

'The driver then allegedly turned around and hit the man while shouting "DIE!',' according to the release.

The CAIR also shared a photo of Ayyad in hospital wearing a neck brace.

Its Cleveland Interim Executive Director Faten Odeh said at the time: 'We hope the North Ridgeville Police Department and the FBI will collect all the information they need to charge this individual with a hate crime.'

CAIR subsequently released on October 23 in which it demanded an investigation into the incident along with a photo of him lying in hospital with a neck brace

Ayyad was then approached by North Ridgeville police officers who said he told them he 'had been struck by a vehicle and that the incident was racially motivated' before he was taken to hospital.

Investigators looking in to the incident retrieved surveillance footage from the area and concluded he had lied about being hit by the car and being racially abused.

'Injuries sustained at the time of the incident were caused by a violent fight that the alleged victim had participated in with his brother, which was confirmed by area video surveillance,' police said.

Ayyad was subsequently arrested along with his 19-year-old brother Khalil A. Ayyad who was charged with domestic violence and assault. The pair are being held at the Lorain County Jail.

An Islamic Council spokesman said the organization does not know more about the nature of the charges.

'Our understanding is that the brothers have secured their own legal counsel,' they added.

DailyMail.com has contacted the CAIR and North Ridgeville police for comment.
