Punk band star arrested in his underwear after going on 'terrorizing' rampage through Yosemite park

The singer of hard core punk band Cancer Christ was arrested in his underwear after 'terrorizing' parkgoers during a rampage through Yosemite. 

The chaotic crime spree by Anthony Mehlhaff, 40, included an assault, attempted kidnapping, and a robbery before he took police on a wild car chase with a stolen vehicle before the bare-chested vandal was cuffed on Wednesday afternoon.

His trail of destruction began around 1.45pm when he allegedly assaulted a pregnant server by touching her stomach, and telling her, 'the spirits led me to you and your baby belongs to me, and what time is your break because I will be waiting for you.'

After stealing some drinks, he assaulted another restaurant employee and drove off in his vehicle towards Yosemite National Park. Multiple people called 911 to report the suspect. 

Yosemite Park rangers attempted to stop Mehlhaff but he continued his path of terror through and Merced and Mariposa counties.

Anthony Mehlhaff was booked in Mariposa County Jail and is behing held on $100,000 bail

The raging rocker crashed his vehicle, stole a bicycle, and reportedly ripped off his shirt and handed it to a bystander telling them, 'You'll want to keep this, I'm going to be famous,' according to Mariposa County Sherriff's Office.

During his erratic behavior he was throwing beer cans out of the car window.

At one point, he entered the Tenaya Lodge kitchen through a back door, placed his hat and other items inside a refrigerator, grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began threatening some of the workers.

He then walked to a nearby creek located by the Tenya Lodge Clubhouse and stripped off his clothes - removing his pants, wallet and car keys. 

The punk musician, who refers to himself as 'St. Anthony' entered the clubhouse in only his underwear, and told the customers to leave or they would be in danger. 

Mehlhaff then began vandalizing the Clubhouse.

Official said he reportedly assaulted the store manager, took his car keys and tried to to kidnap him - forcing him to drive him out of the area - but the store manager was able to escape from his grasp.

Mehlhaff drove off with the victims vehicle and drove along Hwy 41 towards Oakhurst. It was there when he encountered a Tesla and began extreme road rage behavior, tailgating the Tesla while making aggressive hand gestures. 

According to police, Mehlhaff  began slamming his vehicle into the Tesla before Mariposa County Sheriff's Deputies tried to intervene.

He was taken into custody after he crashed the stolen vehicle on Hwy 41 just outside of the town of Oakhurst.

While being medically cleared at a local hospital, he began assaulting Mariposa County Sheriff's Deputies. 

He was eventually booked in to the Mariposa County Jail and is currently being held on $100,000 bail.

During the search of Mehlhaff's vehicle that was registered to him, an Enola Gay smoke grenade was located inside the door panel. 

The Merced Bomb Squad was called in to handle the device.

Mehlhaff faces charges of vandalism, vehicle theft, reckless driving, kidnapping, theft, first-degree burglary, robbery, obstructing an officer and battery, as per The Los Angeles Times.

News of his arrest gave many in the community and surrounding areas some peace of mind.

One person wrote: 'He also terrorized groveland for days !! Multiple reports were made to Tuolumne County Sherriffs but they didn't get him. Glad you guys got him. He was getting dangerous.' 

'Wonder how many times this guy has been released from custody despite being obviously dangerous,' another person added.

The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office thanked their partners -  Yosemite National Park Service, Oakhurst California Highway Patrol, the Merced Bomb Squad and the Madera County Sheriff's Office - for their assistance with this case.

'This man drove all around our county terrorizing our visitors and community members. I am extremely happy that no one was seriously injured, this man's behavior was erratic and dangerous,' Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese said.

'This is just a glimpse of what we encounter at any given time. I am proud of the work done by our staff and partnerships built that give us the ability to apprehend criminals who continue to harm our communities.'
