Revealed: Why Stephen Curry's wife Ayesha clashed with Paris cops amid claims her four-month-old baby was 'hit in the head' moments after gold-medal game against France

1 month ago 10

Stephen Curry's wife, Ayesha Curry, broke down in tears after Paris police after they stopped her from leaving the men's Olympic basketball final with her infant.

Ayesha and her mother-in-law, Sonya, had a tense exchange with police on Saturday after Steph and Team USA won gold at the 2024 games.

Video published online by Hollywood Fix showed Ayesha holding her four-month-old son baby Caius Chai and wiping away tears while Sonya begged officers on the street to allow the family access to their vehicle.

Sonya is heard yelling that someone touched Caius, the couple's fourth child who was born prematurely in May. Steph's Golden State Warrior teammate, Draymond Green, is also heard saying that someone hit the boy's head.

A man, who appeared to step in as translator, then explained to the group that police said the 'the president' was coming and 'nobody's allowed to cross the street right now until he's passed'.

French President Emmanuel Macron had attended the match between the United States and host nation France, so it is possible that he could have been exiting the arena around the time of the encounter.

A visible upset Ayesha, 35, is seen holding Caius in a chest-worn baby carrier with her six-year-old son Canon Jack, who was draped in an American flag, by her side.

'Look, they won't let us go back over there where we came from,' Sonya said in the video. 'They won't let the driver come here and they won't let us go back over there.'

At one point a man begins translating for police and offers an apology: 'Sorry about the baby.'

Steph, 36, was not seen in the footage, but his teammate certainly made his presence felt in the gold medalist's absence.

'So, even after him hitting the baby in the head, there's still nothing y'all can do to get them out of here?' Green asked, trying to intervene.

At one point an irate Sonya can be heard yelling at others off camera: 'What? Stop saying my name. You should be helping us with the baby!'

Later, a tearful Sonya simply tells officers: 'Let us get to our car.'

Although Ayesha is clearly crying, she remained silent throughout the confrontation. The couple has not responded to the incident publicly.

Steph and Ayesha announced the birth of Caius in late May.

'Our sweet baby boy decided to make an early arrival!!' the four-time NBA champion wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the newborn's hand. 'He's doing great and we are finally settling in at home as a family of 6! So grateful!'

It's unclear when Caius' original due date was scheduled, but the couple's first three children were all born in July – the height of the NBA offseason.

Eldest daughter Riley Elizabeth was born in July of 2012, while daughter Ryan was born three years later, followed by their first son, Canon, in 2018.

The son of former NBA guard Dell and brother of Charlotte Hornets reserve Seth, Stephen Curry is entering his 16th season, and already stands as the most prolific 3-point shooter in league history.

In addition to his four NBA titles, he also boasts a NBA Finals MVP award, 10 All-Star nods, and two Most Valuable Player honors.

Steph met Ayesha as a teenager at church in his native Charlotte, where his father was playing at the time. The two ultimately married in July of 2011.

Since then, Dell and his long-time wife Sonya have divorced.
