Ricky Pearsall doing 'remarkably well' after being shot on Saturday, says 49ers GM John Lynch: 'Nothing short of miraculous'

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch says wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is doing 'remarkably well' after being shot in a robbery attempt over the weekend.

Pearsall was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital with a bullet wound to the chest after a 17-year-old assailant tried stealing the wideout's Rolex.

Lynch said that Pearsall, who was placed on the non-football injury list and will miss the first four games of the season, has been outpacing expectations and is focused on getting back on the field.

'I think some of his earliest concerns is when he could play,' Lynch said Tuesday. 'He's asking me [in the hospital]... I don't know, but the surgeon was there and helping him through those type of thoughts.'

Lynch seemed confident that the wide receiver would be able to help the Niners at some point this season but is being cautious in the meantime.

In footage taken after the incident, Pearsall appeared to be moving slowly

'He's doing remarkably well,' Lynch said. 'That's kind of uncharted territory. It's not every day you deal with something like this ... It was just a lot for him to work through.

'Our medical experts felt [it was] too much to ask to come back within the next four weeks. We made that decision to at least give him that time. [It's] really, really miraculous.'

Lynch added: 'Ultimately we felt the number one thing we had to be concerned with was Ricky's wellbeing, physically, emotionally, mentally.

'He's going to need that time physically. He's going to need that time emotionally, mentally ... When we drafted Ricky, we did it for the long term and Ricky's going to be a fantastic player here.

'He's eager, he was disappointed but understood that we put him on that list. And what that entails, it's four weeks at least, and we're just going to take this as it comes.'

Not only will Pearsall be able to heal from the shooting, but a shoulder injury that he's been dealing with will also be granted time to recover.

According to ESPN, Pearsall will 'continue to be around the team, attending meetings and working his way back into the mix' for whenever the Niners need him.

'Multiple people down there said this is about as good an outcome as you could have in this situation,' Lynch said.

Pearsall has been recovering well and has even been spotted in the 49ers weight room

'Ricky takes a lot of pride in being available and continues to point out, 'I promise you, I'm not injury-prone.' This is not being injury-prone ... He's going to be a fantastic player.

'The times we've seen him out on the play, he's exactly what we envisioned and more and can't wait to see that take place in due time.

'But first and foremost, we're going to make sure that he's all good and ready to go.'

Pearsall is making quick work of his return to the team, with reports indicating that he's already made an appearance at the Niners' weight room after the shooting.

'I talked to him yesterday, he was actually in the weight room,' said KNBR's Tim Ryan. 'Thank God it's not worse than it was... I already know this, his street cred has gone up tremendously around here.'

Cops say the 17-year-old suspect took a bullet from his gun during his struggle with Pearsall

Pearsall was released from the hospital Sunday - 24 hours after he was shot in downtown San Francisco. He was initially listed as being in a 'serious but stable condition.'

The incident reportedly took place in the city's Union Square with the football player thought to be targeted for his Rolex rather than his NFL status.

Police immediately apprehended the 17-year-old suspect, who was not wearing shoes after losing them at the scene of the attack. They remained in custody as of Monday night and face potential charges this week.

Authorities say the attempted robbery backfired when the suspect took a bullet from his own gun during his struggle with Pearsall, who refused to surrender.
