Sarah Huckabee Sanders slams Kamala for not having kids after Taylor Swift joins childless cat lady brigade supporting Harris

Sarah Huckabee Sanders slammed Kamala Harris on Tuesday night for not having children of her own, an insult that comes after pop star Taylor Swift joined the childless cat lady brigade supporting the Democratic nominee.

The Arkansas governor, speaking to a crowd in Detroit ahead of a townhall with Donald Trump, said that 'the most important job I have; the greatest title I have is that of being a mom.'

'My kids serve as a permanent reminder of everything that is at stake in the country,' said Huckabee who has three children.

'Not only do my kids serve as a permanent reminder of what is important they keep me humble,' she added. 'My kids keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn't have anything keeping her humble.'

Harris does not have biological children but is stepmother to husband Doug Emhoff's two children Ella and Cole from his previous marriage. The children call her 'Momala' and she and Emhoff have a good relationship with Emhoff's ex-wife when it comes to their blended family.

The status of Harris' family returned to the spotlight after Trump named J.D. Vance as his running mate and an old interview from 2021 resurfaced where Vance lamented that the United States was being run by 'childless cat ladies' like Harris, women who he claimed had no 'direct stake' in the country's future.

Several women were outraged and formed 'childless cat ladies' for Harris groups.

Christine Pelosi, a political consultant and daughter of Nancy Pelosi, and Nikki Fried, the chair of the Florida Democratic party, hosted a massive zoom gathering of 'cat ladies' for Harris.

Women rushed to Harris' defense, including the mother of her stepchildren.

'For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I,' Kerstin Emhoff said in a statement.

'She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.'

Ella Emhoff also defended her stepmom, writing in an instagram post: 'How can you be 'childless' when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I?'

Harris married Emhoff in 2014, when Cole and Ella were teenagers.

Swift, who is childless but has three cats, joined their ranks last week when she announced her endorsement of Harris. She included in her announcement a photo of herself and her ragdoll cat Benjamin Button. She signed it 'Childless Cat Lady.'

In her post, she also urged her millions of fans to register to vote.

She noted that 'I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body for decades.'

'I've done my research, and I've made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it's much easier to vote early. I'll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story,' she wrote.

In return, Vance called Swift 'fundamentally disconnected.'

'We admire Taylor Swift's music but I don't think most Americans, whether they like her music or are fans of her or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity,' he told Fox News.

Pets have played an unusual role in this year's election. Vance also spread a false rumor that Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, were eating neighbors' pets.

Trump repeated the charge last week in his debate with Harris.

'In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They're eating, they're eating the pets of the people that live there,' Trump said.

The town has dealt with bomb threats in the aftermath.

Even President Joe Biden weighed in on the matter, calling the Trump charge racist against immigrants.
