Women have identified a habit they do after cleaning that most men admit they've never done before.

The conversation sparked on Reddit when a woman revealed the final step in her cleaning routine was to exit the newly spruced room and re-enter to see how it would look through someone else's eyes.

'Me and my girls discussed walking out then back into a room after cleaning it to see what it looks like to someone else. Do guys do this too?' she wrote.

The thread was quickly flooded with comments from both men and women who debated whether it was in fact a 'girl thing'.

'I do that for everything,' one woman wrote, before another added they do it 'every time without fail'.

A woman revealed the final step in her cleaning routine was to exit the newly spruced room and re-enter to see how it would look through someone else's eyes

One woman had a different take: 'I'm a girl but I don't do this. I do, however, open a window after cleaning and then go out and back in to see if I still smell something.'

Men also chimed in on the debate.

'I have a feeling it's primarily a girl thing. It's also a good way to check that the room smells nice,' one said.

'I bet you that many guys won't do this,' another wrote.

However, some men always check the room one last time to ensure it's spotless.

'I definitely do this. I like admiring a job well done,' one man said.

'I'm a guy and I do this. It's also a good way to get a sense of how your place smells. If you hang out inside too long you get used to the state of things. A perspective reset can do a lot of good,' another wrote.

A third added: 'As a man, I'll move about the room, especially the entry way and see how it looks from other people's perspective when entering to make sure I cleaned enough.'

Others admitted their cleaning routine could improve.

'I only clean when my girlfriend is over so she has evidence that I do it,' one man said.

'Neither my wife or I do that. We just look around while standing in the room,' another wrote.
