The potential for Paris to truly be the city of love during the Olympics was ended as two of the athletes revealed their break-up.

Footballer Lea Schuller and sailor Lara Vadlau were in a relationship going into the Games, regularly speaking about their love and sharing snaps of their lives together on social media.

They were representing different countries at the Games, with Schuller being from Germany - playing or Bayern Munich and her country - while Vadlau is from Austria.

They had hoped to be able to spend some time together in the French capital, but things appear to have gone south quickly, so south that the relationship is now no more.

Speaking to O3, however, Vadlau revealed the end of the relationship, but insisted the duo remain on good terms.

The duo regularly shared snaps of their relationship on social media, but that is now over

'Lea is no longer my partner,' she said. 'Of course I am very proud of her and we are still very good friends and I am keeping my fingers crossed for her.'

There had seemingly been few signs that the relationship was about to come to an end, with Schuller revealing her excitement about heading to the Games with her other half - despite being on opposing teams.

'It's great that we both made it to Paris,' she said in the build-up. 'Maybe we'll run into each other a few times.

'We rarely see each other, only about 100 days a year, because Lara is away a lot and trains hard to prepare for the Games.'

Schuller, who is 26, began her playing career with Hulser SV before joining SGS Essen in 2012. She made her Frauen Bundesliga debut at the age of 16, and went onto play over 100 times for the club before she joined Bayern in 2020.

She is now a regular for Germany's top side and the national team, scoring 57 goals in 85 games for her club side and 45 in 66 for her country.

She started up front for Germany in their 2-1 defeat by England at Wembley in the final of Euro 2022.

Germany lost 1-0 against the United States in the semi-finals of the Olympics this week, and will contest the bronze medal match against Spain on Friday.

The couple have shared snaps online for a number of years, enjoying getaways such as skiing

She has been competing at the Olympics since London 2012, winning gold for the first time in Paris this week.
