The Perfect Couple fans have been left baffled by Nicole Kidman's hybrid accent on the Netflix show,

The Australian actress, 57, who plays famed novelist Greer Garrison Winbury on the show, shocked viewers in the murder mystery series as she flipped between 'American, English and Australian' accents.

Starring alongside a predominately American cast including Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning and The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy in the series set in Nantucket - the star's questionable accent quickly set tongues wagging on social media.

One fan wrote: 'the way nicole kidman’s accent in the perfect couple is american, british and australian all in one.'

Another typed: 'Special mention for Nicole Kidman’s ever-changing accent that somehow manages to cover English, American and Australian all within episode one.'

A third penned: 'me every time there’s a new mystery series with an ensemble cast featuring nicole kidman using an unidentifiable and inconsistent accent.'

Others wrote: 'nicole kidman is like: i’m gonna do whatever accent i like whenever i like and you’re gonna eat it.'

The Perfect Couple follows Kidman and Liev Schreiber's characters as their lives turn upside-down after a body washes up on a beach - a show early reviewers are calling 'ludicrously good'. 

 'I grew up on [murder mysteries] and I haven't seen one like this for a while, so it was really exciting to be a part of it and to be able to produce it as well,' Kidman told Reuters on Monday.

'[Greer is] strong and and powerful and that was exciting to play. I'm always on this quest to find things that I haven't done or have different experiences.'

Susanne Bier directed the small-screen adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand's 2018 novel of the same name.

Hilderbrand will next be focusing her energy on a two-book deal with her daughter, where the pair will set the story at a boarding school. 

The first book, titled The Academy, is set to be published in September 2025 with the follow-up in September 2026. 

It will loosely be based off her experience at the St. George's School in Newport, Rhode Island, she told Boston.com.
