Tim Walz gives VERY bizarre reason for falsely claiming her carried a gun in war... and pivots to attacks on his children and his dog

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz shrugged off questions about his incorrect descriptions of his military service record, during his joint CNN interview with Kamala Harris on Thursday.

The vice presidential candidate has been accused of embellishing his National Guard career for political gain and scrutinized for suggesting he was in combat, even though he never deployed to a warzone.

He sat down with CNN Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash for first major interview has Harris' running mate.

Walz vigorously defended his military record but stopped short of admitting he misspoke and pivoted to attacks on his children and his dog.

'My record speaks for itself but I think as people are coming to know me I speak like they do,' Walz said, dodging the question. 'I speak candidly, I wear my emotions on my sleeves.'

In 2018, Walz said he carried 'weapons of war' in battle, during a discussion about the need for gun control

'We can make sure that those weapons of war that I carried in war is the only place where those weapons are at,' he said, despite never being deployed overseas.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz shrugged off questions about his incorrect descriptions of his military service record, during his joint CNN interview with Kamala Harris on Thursday.

He then referred to criticism he got from his wife, when speaking publicly about his record.

'My wife the English teacher tells me my grammar is not always correct,' he added.

He pivoted to other issues where he felt he was unfairly attacked by some supporters of former President Donald Trump.

'If it's not this, it's an attack on my children for showing love for me or it's an attack on my dog,' he said.

Bash also questioned Walz about his misstatements about he and his wife using IVF to have their children, when they actually used a different treatment and misstating details of a 1995 drunk driving arrest.

Walz has been accused of skipping out on his National Guard unit in 2005 to begin his political career just before it deployed to Iraq. He served 24 years after enlisting at the age of 17

Walz said that his students and fellow servicemen would 'vouch' for him.

'I certainly own my mistakes when I make them,' he said.

He pivoted back to Republican efforts to restrict abortion rights, pointing to a contrast between his vision and that of former President Donald Trump.

'I won't apologize for speaking passionately whether it's guns in schools or protecting our reproductive rights,' he said.

Walz joined the National Guard after high school and served 24 years in the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery, rising to the rank of command sergeant major

In the interview, Harris defended Joe Biden's fitness for the job and took a pass when it came to commenting on her Republican rival Donald Trump.

While many topics were covered, Harris stuck to her talking points and, at times, appeared nervous and hesitant in her responses.

She did grow animated in one area, when she defended Biden's ability to do the job and talked about that day he called her to say he was dropping out of the race.

Biden, 81, was pressured out of the race by Democrats, who were worried he'd lose to Trump after his disastrous debate performance where he struggled for words and stared into space.

'I have served with President Biden for almost four years,' Harris said in defense of the president. 'He truly cares so deeply about the American people. He is so smart and loyal to the American people.'

'I have spent hours upon hours with him being in the Oval Office or the Situation Room - he has the intelligence, the commitment, and the judgment and disposition that I think the American people rightly deserve in their president,' she added.

'By contrast, the former president has none of that and so one, I am so proud to have served as vice president to Joe Biden and I'm so proud to be running with Tim Walz for president United States.'

Harris, in her nearly hour-long interview, had no major mistakes.

And Democrats defended her on that point, saying she had followed the main rule of interviews: first do no harm.

Trump summed it up in one word: 'Boring,' he wrote on his Truth Social Account.
