Donald Trump's campaign thinks Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has ruined his chances of a future in politics by 'tainting his name' during the 2024 presidential campaign.

'He did this to himself,' Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung told DailyMail.com, referencing DeSantis' poll demise and his decision to turn on the ex-president on the campaign trail.

DeSantis is trailing Trump for second place in the primary race by several dozen points – with the ex-president leading the rest of the field with usually around half of the support from voters.

So what would DeSantis do if he's not in politics after his gubernatorial term ends in Florida in 2024?

Cheung says there are two options: 'Pizza delivery driver or Democrat surrogate for Joe Biden, since he's acting like one of them already.'

Trump helped propel DeSantis to victory in his 2018 gubernatorial primary race and ultimately garnered him national prominence, which was only furthered when Florida became one of the leading states in relaxing COVID-19 restrictions.

Former President Donald Trump's campaign claims that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has ruined his chances of having a future in politics or public office because of his 'truly disgusting and abhorrent' behavior on the campaign trail

Trump believes that DeSantis running for president against him is disloyal. An email from the campaign writes: 'At this rate, the entire DeSanctus name will be tainted from ever running for political office ever again'

But Trump thinks it was 'disloyal' and 'traitorous' for DeSantis to run for president this year instead of waiting until he is no longer in the running.

A campaign spokesperson for DeSantis dismissed the criticism when reached by DailyMail.com, and pointed to the fact that the ex-president has repeatedly refused to show up for a debate in the 2024 primary cycle so far.

While the Florida governor was a Trump ally for years, the two have turned against each other in bitter displays from the campaign trail.

Trump has dubbed his 2024 competitor 'DeSanctimonious' and DeSantis has slammed the ex-president for not keeping good on his 2016 campaign promises.

DeSantis also claims that Trump is wrong to skip out on debating the rest of the GOP field, claiming no one is 'entitled' to the Republican presidential nomination.

'[How] he's conducting himself on the campaign trail is truly disgusting and abhorrent, and the voters will never forget,' Cheung said of the Florida governor.

In a statement on Tuesday, Cheung pointed to recent polling that show DeSantis in a 'downward spiral' with just five weeks until the Iowa caucuses kick off the Republican primary contest on January 15.

'Ron DeSanctimonious must have a real fixation for being embarrassed and disrespected for the entire world to see. He must really like it or he's just along for the ride,' Cheung wrote in the emailed statement. 'Either way, his epic flameout will be studied by political scholars for generations and will be a case study on how not to run a campaign.'

Gov. DeSantis (pictured with wife Casey in Iowa on December 9) is in a distant second place to Trump in the 2024 Republican primary in nearly every poll

DeSantis participated in a CNN town hall in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday where he spoke with caucus-goers in the Hawkeye State in a bid to convince them to back him over Trump.

But the latest Des Moines Register/NBC News/Mediacom poll released on Monday shows Trump with a 32-point lead ahead of DeSantis, who came in second with 19 percent.

At 51 percent support, Trump has a historic lead in Iowa this close to the caucuses.

Cheung's reproving email called Ron a 'crying schoolchild' and said that latest polling in DeSantis' home state of Florida is an 'embarrassment'.

'At this rate, the entire DeSanctus name will be tainted from ever running for political office ever again,' he wrote.
