Fox TV host Nick Wright launched into an impassioned defense of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, amid fans' claims it could be 'the end' for him.

Burrow has been the subject of intense speculation on social media over the last two days, after a video emerged of him appearing to struggle with a wrist injury.

While Burrow has since moved to quell fears over his health, fans claimed he may never be the same player as he was before - something Wright strongly disagrees with.

In a furious retaliation on 'First Things First' on Wednesday, Wright said: 'I have found the Joe Burrow commentary the last 72 hours bordering on hysterical, and full-blown ludicrous. Where is this energy for Joe that we have for Lamar [Jackson], that we have for Josh Allen?

'Joe Burrow is a spectacular quarterback, and his only weakness when healthy is that he's somewhat physically limited. He doesn't have the strongest arm, he's not the most agile, he's not the strongest. He's able to achieve at a super-high level despite the fact he's probably around league average in term of measurables.

On Fox, Nick Wright defended Burrow and slammed 'nonsense' and 'lies' surrounding the QB

'Which is why he is a guy that, if he's not close to 100%, looks terrible. His calf is a little banged up, he can't play well. If his wrist is legitimately still hurt, it shows up.

'But this idea that has been propagated online, and by other talk-show hosts, that he's been bad for two years, is a lie. It's nonsense!'

Wright then reflected on his previous opinions on Burrow, who came into the league as the No 1 overall pick out of LSU in 2020.

He has since played four seasons in the NFL, and enters his fifth year with the Bengals with plenty of question marks arising about him.

'We had a conversation on this show last year, going into the game he hurt his wrist: "Could he win the MVP of the league?",' Wright continued.

'Weeks five to nine, he looked like the best quarterback in the year. That was coming off a two-year stretch where he was the second-best quarterback in the year.

Fans speculated that it could be 'the end' for Burrow after he 'struggled' to lift up a bottle

'We have seen Joe Burrow win in big spots and play great in big spots, we have seen him go into Josh Allen's house and outplay him. We have seen Joe Burrow have two playoff runs better than any one playoff run Lamar has had.

'Listen, am I worried about him? If his wrist is really still hurt, he will not be good. Do I think we've overrated Joe Burrow? Do I think, "oh, time for the receipts on Joe Burrow." I think people are idiots.

'I think he's clearly one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and clearly has been for the last four years.'

In September 2023, Burrow signed a five-year contract extension worth $275 million. He is the highest-paid player in NFL history on an annual basis, making $55 million per year.
