You can turn 10 PTO days into 45 vacation days this year with a couple of sneaky tricks... here's how

Americans can triple their paid time off in 2025 - just by planning ahead and being very selective when they use days.

Most workers get 10 to 15 vacation days per year, thought it varies between jobs. 

By incorporating weekends and federal holidays it is possible to turn just ten days of PTO into 45 days of holiday in 2025. 

Of course, this only works if you already get weekends and public holidays off from work.

Travel experts at Rightway Parkway have also laid out a plan to use this time to travel nine countries, six states and sixteen cities. Scroll down to see the full suggested itinerary. 

The plans takes vacationers from Martin Luther King Day through to Christmas. 

'We wanted this hack to work for everyone and since most entry-level positions offer 10 days of allotted vacation days, we've managed to squeeze in eleven potential trips using just these days,' Matt Pfleiderer, CEO of Rightway Parking said of the itinerary.

'For others with more time off, we have given Americans the opportunity to explore the world without sacrificing their entire years' worth of PO days. 

'These trips hope to be culturally rich and exciting, all while maximizing workers' limited vacation days. 

Highlights of these adventures include a romantic getaway to Paris, a scenic cruise to Mexico, and an eight-day European tour, along with five opportunities for three-day weekends to enjoy shorter domestic breaks. 

The suggested itinerary is expected to cost US travelers an estimated $5,670 over the course of the year. 

The cost is estimated on flights from the six busiest airports in the US plus any internal train fares needed at the destination. 

More than half of Americans don't use their full holiday allowance, according to a recent survey by Expedia. 

Maximising long weekends around federal holidays may be a good fit for those less inclined to take weeks away from the office. 

'Federal holidays and long weekends are your best friend here,' Jesse Neugarten, CEO and Founder of Dollar Flight Club told Forbes. 

'If you time it right, you can turn just 15 PTO days into over 50 days off in a year.' 

For example, taking Thursday, July 3 off this year will give you a four-day weekend because July 4 falls on a Friday. 

Holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving are also great opportunities to take an uninterrupted break. 

Christmas and New Year are also popular ways to extend usual holidays in to a longer vacation.  

One of the downsides of this strategy is travel and hotels can often be significantly more expensive as demand soars around key dates. 

Other experts cautioned against using up all possible PTO days to leave room for flexibility. 

'Life is unpredictable, and holding back a few PTO days for spontaneous needs—whether it's a personal matter or an exciting last-minute opportunity—can help you feel in control,' leadership expert Edel Holliday-Quinn told the publication. 

Another hack recommended by HR expert Laurie Cure recommends adding vacation days or a long weekend to the end of business trips for those who travel for work. 

'This saves both money and time,' Cure told Forbes.
