Another witness said that they saw the train driver exit the scene unscathed.
Corio resident, Wayne Duffin, told the Geelong Advertiser that heard a massive crash and saw a 'big orange tarp' near where the train had derailed.
'There was a truck with an enormous piece of machinery on the back of it and that is all jammed up against the train,' he said.
'We’ve heard the train cleaned him up, the poor bugger. The whole train has been derailed.'
Victoria Police have said that the truck got struck on a level crossing before being hit by the train.
The truck driver, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed that there were not treating anyone else involved in the crash.
