A body has been discovered in the search for a woman who went missing in the Lake Macquarie district of NSW.

Vicki Davey, 63, from the Lake Macquarie area disappeared while on a bushwalk on Wednesday.

At around 12pm on Friday, police discovered the body of a woman near a waterway at Glenrock nature reserve at Kahibah.

The body is yet to be formally identified, though police believe it is that of the missing woman.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner. 

Police were alerted when Ms Davey could no longer be contacted and began looking into her whereabouts

A search led by police and supported by SES was launched at 8am on Thursday.
