Watchdog opens investigation into Golob’s alleged undue pressure on ex-minister

An investigation into the allegation that Prime Minister Robert Golob exerted undue pressure on former interior minister Tatjana Bobnar over staffing in the police, which ultimately led to her resignation last December, has been opened by the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption, the watchdog announced on Friday.

Bobnar says she stands firmly by allegations that “inadmissible demands and conditions” were made.

Experts should do their job and say what is admissible in society. “What I wanted to achieve by reporting this is merely that it would be said loud and clear where is the limit of the admissible in politics,” she said.

“Despite all the personal discrediting and lies and hallucinations, the laws are clear, and the facts and evidence speak for themselves, and state bodies should make their judgements professionally and independently,” Bobnar said in reference to Golob’s recent claim that her allegation he influenced the timing of the arrest of two suspected Russian spies last year were “hallucinations”.
