Wayne and Coleen Rooney 'face getting no sleep' after wealthy farmers WIN planning battle to build huge barn for noisy farm vehicles near the couple's £20million 'Morrisons' mega mansion

Wayne Rooney and Coleen Rooney could face getting no sleep after their wealthy farmer neighbours won planning permission to expand their farm.

The Brighouses lodged plans for a shed on the boundary with Rooney's £20million Cheshire mansion for agricultural machinery and straw for the family's sheep farming business.

Under the approved plans, the 30 by 24 metre shed will store equipment including a large bale trailer, grass roller, four furrow ploughs and a small livestock trailer.

They previously lodged plans for the construction of a neighbouring shed to hold hundreds of genetically modified Australian sheep. It included a 'dark-room laboratory' so the Brighouses can genetically modify their flock.

In planning documents, the Brighouses say that sheep breeding on the farm has expanded exponentially since 2020, with the flock currently standing at 400 breeding ewes, 40 rams and 400 lambs.

The Rooney's have moved into the £20million Cheshire mega-mansion - which has been dubbed the 'Morrisons Mansion' (pictured)

However, the farming family, who own extensive swathes of land in Cheshire, faced opposition from the local parish council.

Ollerton with Marthall Parish Council complained the farmers were intending to turn the development into residential housing. The project was later approved by Cheshire East Council in April 2022.

Several months later, the parish council hit out at Rooney and wife Coleen in a further planning application from the Brighouses accusing them of building a 'footballers' housing estate'.

The dig came from a council YouTube video, as part of their opposition to the  Brighouses plan to build a barn next to the Rooney family home.

The council said it was concerned that, once built, the barn would be used as a home rather than for sheep farming as the applicant claimed.

During the video, the council drags the Rooney's into the row by comparing the redevelopment of their own mansion, which was completed three years ago and dubbed 'Morrison's Mansion' because it looks so much like a supermarket.

They do not refer to the couple by name but say their developers changed stables into a residence, and installed an all-weather football pitch where an equestrian centre was meant to have been built.

A number of people on social media compared the Rooney home's design to a supermarket, such as this Morrisons in Sunderland

In this latest application, the Brighouses state that machinery would be ruined and the target of thieves without the new barn.

The design and access statement adds that 'if the agricultural machinery or equipment is not stored correctly, the value can be significantly reduced due to weather damage and increased deterioration rates.

'Further to this machinery and equipment is put at a higher risk of theft and vandalism if stored outdoors.'

A decision notice issued by Cheshire East Council states: 'Ongoing expansion of the business provides further justification for the requirement of additional storage capacity.

'Accordingly, the information provided is considered to demonstrate that the proposed development is reasonably necessary for the purposes of agriculture.'

The Cheshire property has taken several years to build

Rooney's three-storey mansion near Wilmslow in Cheshire was completed in 2020 and has an orangery, bar, TV room, snooker room, cinema and wine cellar.

It also has a huge indoor swimming pool surrounded by a glass pavilion, a hot tub, plunge pool, steam room and 'his' or 'hers' changing rooms.

The ex-Premier League star's pad boasts an extensive patio, landscaped gardens, a luxury car garage and a stable block.

It also has separate lifts – one for the family and the other for visitors to avoid the social faux pas of using the couple's own downstairs loo.

Rooney's property portfolio also includes a £5m sprawling Barbados villa, which he rents out for £25,000 a week and a £320,000 waterfront apartment in Florida.
