Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen have reportedly begun house-hunting as they prepare for the next chapter in the Man United legend's career.

On Saturday afternoon, Rooney was appointed as the new manager of Plymouth Argyle on a three-year deal - just four months after being sacked by Birmingham City

He faces the difficult task of ensuring Plymouth's survival in the Championship next season, after the club finished 21st in the 2023-24 campaign.

And, ahead of the new season starting, Rooney has already begun getting to work as he reportedly searches for a new home on Devon's south coast.

According to The Sun, Rooney and wife Coleen have been eyeing properties in and around the posh Devon resort of Salcombe.

The couple have been looking for properties in Salcombe, on the south coast of Devon

Salcombe is east of Plymouth and would take the former striker less than an hour to travel to Home Park Stadium.

According to property site RightMove, properties in Salcombe had an overall average price of £1,072,781 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Salcombe during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £1,343,217.

Though the prices, for many, will be looked at as extortionate figures, it's nothing compared to the £20million mansion in Cheshire that they have spent the last year and a bit living in.

The ex-Manchester United and England striker, 38, broke the bank to finalise his dream family home, a rural six bedroom fortress nestled behind a lake and spread across 40 acres of neatly manicured countryside.

The home boasts a snooker room, a home cinema, indoor swimming pool, an underground spa, wine cellar, a stable area with space for 14 horses, and, a football pitch for their four sons.

The couple also loved holiday hotspot Barbados so much that they eventually splashed out £5million a rental property there in 2010.

Located in the exclusive Royal Westmoreland estate on the Caribbean island, the resort has become so popular with northern celebrities that its Jasmine Ridge development is now unofficially known as the 'Northern Quarter'.

Once a sugar plantation, it extends to 750 acres and has 225 privately owned villas and cottages, a clubhouse, restaurant, spa, private beach and a golf course.

As of 2017, the villa rents for £25,410 per week at high season - such as Christmastime - while it drops to £10,164 per week during low season.

Royal Westmoreland owner John Morphet said in 2017: 'We have a very wide range of people here. We do have celebrities but once we come in through the gate we are all on the same level.

'The owners are not starstruck, they leave each other alone. People don't bother them, they just mix in.'

On his appointment at Plymouth, Rooney said: 'Taking this role at Plymouth Argyle feels like the perfect next step in my career – and I would like to thank the Chairman and Board for the faith they have shown in me.

'This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting project. I look forward to helping to build a squad of players to play expansive football – and to entertain the Green Army.

'I have experienced first-hand how talented the existing group of players is here – and also the incredible atmosphere at Home Park. The club is on an exciting long-term journey, with a progressive plan in place. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.

'I can’t wait for the Championship season to start in August.'
