Royal fans delight in welcoming back the Princess of Wales and commend her bravery after she announced that she will attend Trooping the Colour tomorrow as she continues her cancer treatment.

Kate, 42, who revealed back in March that she was undergoing 'preventative chemotherapy' for an undisclosed form of cancer, says her treatment is ongoing and will be for several more months.

She will not be returning to public duties full time but she does feel well enough to attend a small number of public engagements in the coming months.

The first will be at the King's official birthday parade tomorrow where she will ride in a carriage with her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis before appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside the rest of the Royal Family.

Fans have flooded social media with well-wishes and messages of excitement at Kate's return.

One simply wrote: 'Welcome back Your Highness'.

Another said: 'This is the best news. So incredibly happy to hear that things are progressing well and cannot wait to see your beaming beautiful smile once again'.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has also said it is 'wonderful news' that the Princess of Wales is to join the royal family at Trooping the Colour.

During a press conference at the G7 in Italy, he said: 'It's obviously wonderful, wonderful news. The whole country will be behind the Princess of Wales for her recovery.

'I saw her statement earlier, I thought it was brave, I thought it was honest and I'm sure it will bring an enormous amount of comfort to so many other people who are grappling with similar health challenges, so I think she deserves enormous praise for what she said and it will be great to see her there tomorrow.'

In a post on X, he wrote: 'The Princess of Wales’ statement will be especially meaningful to those who are fighting cancer and for their families.

They will recognise the same struggle in her words and draw hope and inspiration from her strength.

I'm delighted she will be in attendance for His Majesty's Birthday Parade and I know the whole country is behind her.'

Social media is full of people reflecting on how Kate helps others who are unwell by being so candid about how she is feeling during her recovery.

One person said: 'What a lovely and moving post. Mostly everyone has known friends or family members going through medical challenges. Your words lift me up. Wishing you the best, and sending healing energy. Thank you.'

People who have had cancer have also showed their support for the Princess of Wales, with one writing: 'This is the BEST news! I have been through chemo/radio twice myself and some days are so hard. I cannot wait to see the Princess tomorrow IF she is well enough. #WeLoveYouCatherine'.

The announcement came with a stunning new portrait of Kate taken at Windsor this week showing her looking well and optimistic.

In her message the Princess says she has been 'blown away' by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months.

'It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times,' she wrote.

Movingly she reveals she is making 'good progress', but adds: 'As anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days.

'On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.'

She added: 'My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

'I'm looking forward to attending The King's Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.

'I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.

'Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.'
