West Indies finished Day Two on 351/5 of the second Test at Trent Bridge as they recovered from a shaky start to finish in firm control of their own destiny heading into Saturday just 65 runs behind England.

The Windies produced an impressive response to England's outstanding first day innings at Trent Bridge, with Kavem Hodge the star of the show as he managed 120 runs off 171 balls.

The 31-year-old walked to the crease as No.5 tasked with rescuing the West Indies following a difficult start to the day that saw the top three batsmen dismissed collectively for under 100 runs.

Alick Athanaze also enjoyed a strong performance, falling short of a Test century by 18 runs, while opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite was caught by Ollie Pope just two short of a half-century.

The visitors will now have a golden opportunity to chase down England's total on what was a tiring day for Ben Stokes and his fellow bowlers on a searing hot day across the country.

England were left frustrated following a difficult day on the wicket in scintillating heat

Speaking after the match, Hodge admitted the Windies has learnt from watching England's impressive Day One batting performance.

'It feels amazing. It’s always good to contribute to the team. It was really important we got our head down after the first Test. We also took some info from England’s first innings,' he said.

'I thought I was too aggressive at Lord’s. I could have given myself more time. It was really important that I doubled down today.

'My powers of concentration are good and I have no problems batting for long periods. I enjoy playing the waiting game, and then once the ball was in the right area my execution was important.

When I was on 97 I kind of blacked out! I did. I was trying to stay in the moment but everything was a blur. I was still pinching myself even after the celebration – I hadn’t grasped it yet, it was like a dream,' he added.
