Former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones has backed Jason Ryles to succeed at Parramatta next year in the NRL, pointing to his diligence and ability to communicate with players.

And Jones - who is in his second stint coaching Japan's rugby side - would know.

He employed Ryles when coaching England as well as the Wallabies at the 2023 World Cup and was impressed by his desire to expand his skills and knowledge in a different footy code.

'I've got no doubt he's ready,' Jones told the Sydney Morning Herald.

'He's done his time as an assistant coach. He's always been diligent and been quite adventurous.

'Jason develops good rapport with the players and is good with the coaches. He's got all the attributes of a successful coach.

'He's also done a lot of time with [Storm coach] Craig [Bellamy], he couldn't be better prepared.'

Jones also declared Ryles - who this week won the race to replace Brad Arthur at the Eels - has 'always been engaged' and 'purposeful in developing his coaching career.'

The 45-year-old has signed a four-year deal with Parramatta and he will need to hit the ground running in 2025.

NRL grand finalists just two years ago, the Eels won't play finals football in September this year and also have an ageing roster.

What could work in Ryles' favour is his impressive pedigree, previously coaching in quality systems at the Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters.

Eels chairman Sean McElduff is confident Ryles is the man to lead the club forward.

'Jason's proven track record in winning environments, combined with his passion for developing young talent perfectly aligns with the direction we are taking,' he said.

'We have a strong NRL roster and a group of exciting young players coming through our pathway programs.

'We believe Jason is the ideal person to build a strong connection within the playing group, across the club and with the passionate Parramatta Eels fanbase.'
