A woman and a young girl have been rushed to hospital in Carlisle with serious injuries following an attack this morning that also left a man with knife wounds.
Police and emergency services were scrambled to an incident in Whernside this morning following reports that a man had stab wounds.
After police arrived they found a woman in her 50s and child with serious injuries.
They have both been taken to the nearby Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment.
The man, also aged in his 50s, has been taken to Cumberland infirmary with a stab wound and is described as stable

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: 'There is no wider threat to the public and officers are asking member of the public to avoid the area whilst officers conduct their investigations.
