Woman fighting for life after being hit by a car while crossing the road in Truganina, Melbourne

A woman is fighting for her life after she was struck by a car while crossing the road in Melbourne. 

The female pedestrian was crossing Leakes Road in Truganina, 22km west of Melbourne's CBD, when she was hit by a car at 4.35am on Wednesday. 

The driver of the white sedan stopped to help the woman and is assisting police with their enquiries.

The woman, whose age is not yet known, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.   

Police have launched in investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigators believe a number of cars drove past the scene at the time and are keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage.
