Charlotte Flair's knee injury will require surgery that will sideline the WWE starlet for around nine months.

The 37-year-old was forced out of the ring at last Friday's WWE Smackdown after appearing to slip and get caught in the ropes during her bout against Asuka

Flair was described as noticebly favouring her right now as she tried to see out the fight, before shouting 'my knee' as referee Charles Robinson and medical personnel attended to her after the match.

The fighter limped in the final moments of a match that came to an abrupt end following interference from Bayley which allowed Asuka to pin her down.

The incident was not shown during the broadcast, and there was no update on Flair's injury until the WWE broke their silence on Friday.

Supporters will no doubt be disappointed that the injury will mean she misses out on both the Royal Rumble - in seven weeks' time, and next year's Wrestlemania.

In Smackdown, Flair had been embroiled in a rivalry with Damage CTRL, and in November she teamed up with Bianca Belair, Shotzi and Becky Lynch in the WarGames match at Survivor Series.
