Why this viral video of Kamala Harris exercising on steps of Lincoln Memorial spooked VP into dramatic change in her routine

1 month ago 6

Kamala Harris stopped exercising outdoors over fears a 2021 video showing her running the steps of the Lincoln Memorial emphasized her age gap with Joe biden.

A new profile of Harris portrays the Democrat nominee as exceptionally deferential to Biden in her early years of his presidency, as opposed to the woman who has easily claimed the nomination in 2024 after her boss dropped out.

Harris, 59, saw widespread positive reaction to the video that showed her running up and down the monument steps with husband Doug Emhoff. Some onlookers even compared the masked exercise to the famous montage in Rocky.

One fitness website said she 'crushed a cardio workout' with others praising her for 'working for the American people' while still getting a workout in.

But Harris did not enjoy the flattery, the Wall Street Journal reported. Sources told the paper she began working out indoors after, for fear of making her 81 year-old boss look bad.

The anecdote comes from a story that suggests that while the Biden administration didn't put down Harris, they didn't exactly lift her up either.

Aides told the Wall Street Journal that it simply never occurred to them that Biden wouldn't run for a second term.

It also suggested that Harris hadn't been expecting her role as the so-called 'Border Czar', a title both the president and vice president have denied giving her.

One person close to Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff said that Harris' husband called the role a punishment.

Others close to Harris say she eventually found her way after the 2022 overturning of Roe vs. Wade.

The Supreme Court decision allowed Harris to be front and center as the administration fought against the ruling.

Harris was catapulted into the race after Biden announced last month that he was giving up his reelection campaign.

While she polled poorly as VP, Harris has enjoyed a strong start to campaign and is currently seen as a worthy adversary for Trump.

Aides claimed that Harris' reticence to make Biden - now 81 and the oldest president in American history - appear his age led the vice president to switch to indoor workouts from that point on

The latest polling average from Real Clear Politics shows that Harris has a 1.4 percent lead over Trump.

Trump insiders were initially jubilant, expecting weeks of Democratic infighting. But the party quickly rallied around the vice president and will show a united front at its convention in Chicago next week.

The Democratic National Convention is pulling out all the big stops this year with a stacked line-up of speakers.

President Joe Biden will make remarks on Monday followed by a speech from Hillary Clinton. On Tuesday former President Barack Obama is headline and fellow former Democratic President Bill Clinton on Wednesday.

But another speaker was just revealed to be in the line-up – and some Democrats wanted to see this person replace Biden on the 2024 ticket instead of Harris.

Michelle Obama will speak Tuesday before her husband's remarks, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

More than 50,000 people are descending on Chicago for the Democratic Convention this week – where Harris and Walz are expected to official be nominated for the 2024 ticket.

After the biggest voices in the Democratic Party speak at the Convention earlier in the week, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will accept his nomination as vice president with a speech on Wednesday.

The United Center has set the stage for the Convention starting on Monday, August 18 and concluding on Thursday, August 21

Harris will finish off the event with her keynote address on Thursday, followed by a balloon drop.

Trump plans to flood the airwaves with rallies, press conferences and campaign events that will run a massive counter-programming effort to the DNC.

Trump will hold events each day this week in key swing states, and his running mate Sen. J.D. Vance also plans to hit battleground states with events on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – and it all culminates in a rally on Friday.

Meanwhile, Trump's allies will run daily press conferences at Trump Hotel in Chicago, Illinois each day of the convention .

Republican surrogates coming to town for the Convention include Sens. Rick Scott (Fla.) and Ron Johnson (Wisc.) and Florida Reps. Byron Donalds and Mike Waltz. The Thursday press conference will include a 'surprise special guest.'

The first presidential debate between the two is set to be held in Philadelphia on September 10 and will be moderated by ABC News.

The first vice presidential debate between Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio will take place on October 1 in New York City, and will be hosted by CBS.
